Dr. Brent E. Sexton
Dr. Brent Sexton owns Delta Smiles and treats patients at both the Antioch and Brentwood offices. He bought the practice from the orthodontist who founded it and kept its character intact. Same downtown Brentwood address, much of the same team, and the same habit of treating families, not cases. This practice has looked after East County smiles for decades.
His interest in orthodontics started early. He was 12, in braces, and paying closer attention to what the orthodontist was doing than most 12-year-olds would. That never wore off.
A Passion for Creating Healthy, Confident Smiles
For Dr. Sexton, orthodontics is about more than straightening teeth. He believes a healthy, attractive smile can improve self-confidence, encourage positive social interactions, and enhance overall quality of life.
One of the most rewarding aspects of his profession is building lasting relationships with patients and their families while guiding them through their smile transformation journey. He enjoys celebrating treatment milestones and seeing patients gain confidence as their smiles improve.
Education and Training
| Degree or credential | Institution |
|---|---|
| Bachelor’s degree | Ball State University |
| Master of Science | Purdue University |
| Doctor of Dental Surgery | Indiana University |
| Certificate in Orthodontics | Indiana University |
| Master of Science in Dentistry | Indiana University |
Two graduate degrees plus a full orthodontic residency is a longer road than the specialty requires. It shows in how he approaches a difficult case. He wants to see the evidence behind a technique before he uses it on a patient, which keeps him from adopting things that do not work.
How He Treats Patients
Dr. Sexton believes a healthy bite and a smile someone is willing to show are the same goal, approached from two directions. Getting there takes a year or two of short appointments. A year or two of short visits builds real relationships, and that is a deliberate part of how this practice works.
If a child does not need treatment yet, he says so and books a review in a year instead of starting something. If a case sits at the edge of what orthodontics alone can achieve, he says that too, and explains what the alternative involves.
He also works closely with the general dentists across East County who refer to this practice. Orthodontic treatment sits alongside routine dental care rather than replacing it, and cases involving restorations, extractions, or gum treatment require both practices to work in step. Sharing records and sequencing treatment with your own dentist is routine here.
The Practice He Runs
Owning the practice means Dr. Sexton sets how it operates, and what patients notice is deliberate. Free first exams with no obligation attached. The full treatment plan and fee are settled before anyone commits. Payment plans carried in-house without interest. A team kept long enough that patients know them by name.
None of that is unusual on its own. Keeping all of it in place, in two offices, over a long stretch of years, takes intent.
Professional Memberships and Continuing Education
He is an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, the California Association of Orthodontists, the California Dental Association, and the Southern Alameda County Dental Society. Continuing education comes mostly through the AAO and PCSO, along with the clinical literature.
Outside the Office
Dr. Sexton grew up in Greenwood, Indiana, a farming town outside Indianapolis. He now lives in the East Bay with his wife, Kara, and their daughters, Lucy and Emma. On weekends, he visits family and whatever the region has to offer, which, after an Indiana childhood, still strikes him as an unreasonable amount of choice.
